Trinity Celebrates its Anniversaries
On Sunday, June 12 we celebrated the 150th anniversary of Trinity's founding! The actual founding date was June 15, 1871, marking the first time the people who would become Trinity organized a worship service and had a pastor come to preach to them.
But this year also marks the 129th anniversary of our move to this location.
Trivia question: Where was Trinity located before the move to 67 Saxton Street? (Call us at 434-3106 for the answer).
Respite Care Ministry
What is a respite ministry? A respite ministry allows caregivers of people with dementia a needed time off. They bring their loved ones to us in the morning and pick them up again in the afternoon. In the meantime they can run errands, attend their own appointments, visit friends, or simply rest.
Trinity's Respite Ministry for Caregivers began in April, 2016. The program is open to any household in need and is held on the second Tuesday of the month at Trinity, from 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM, with lunch included. The size of the program will depend on the number of volunteers for food preparation, activity leaders, and one-on-one help for participants.
Laurie Bauch coordinates the program. Laurie is a registered Ocupational Therapist and is certified as a trainer by Postive Approach to Care. Volunteers for the program have also received training from the Alzheimer's Association of WNY.
Funding for the program comes from donations and a generous grant from the Eastern District of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
For more information or to sign up your loved one for this ministry, please call Trinity's church office at 434-3106.
Lockport CARES News
In November, 2009 Lockport CARES, Inc. opened a homeless shelter at 192 Genesee Street. In May, 2018 the shelter moved next door, to 188 Genesee Street. The former shelter house now hosts a day program for women. These ministries are a product of the Christian community of Lockport and depend on our financial donations, volunteer staffing, meal ministry, and prayers. If you're looking to roll up your sleeves and get involved to serve in the name of our Lord Jesus, call 438-2273 and volunteer your time and talents.
Trinity is among the founding members of Lockport CARES, so we rejoice that God has richly blessed this ministry of ours.
